24th WNY High School Chalk
Walk Competition
Teams of talented student
artists create spectacular murals on Center Street on opening day of the
Lewiston Outdoor Art Festival, which annually draws 30,000 visitors.
Our Chalk Walk is based on
a tradition of street painting that dates back to the 18th century. For
years it could be seen on the sidewalks of major cities around the world.
Half the fun for the artist is sharing his or her creative energy with
thousands of delighted passersby.
The theme for this year’s
competition is “200 Years of Diversity“ to commemorate the bicentennial of
Niagara County. Students will be challenged to create murals depicting the
cultural diversity of the County during the past two hundred years. Students
and teachers are encouraged to visit the Niagara County Bi-centennial
website for design inspiration.
“Arts are Key” Cash prizes
and trophies are awarded in 5 categories. Artful gift bags will be presented
to all participating students.
