Lewiston Council on the Arts, together with the National Endowment for the Arts, presented these three exceptional artists at the the last Olde Sanborn Days Festival, held in July 2011.
Erwin Printup- A Cayuga/Tuscarora native, Erwin was born in Niagara Falls and resides on the Tuscarora Reservation. Erwin was the consulting artist on mural projects at Lewiston Porter Middle School and Tuscarora Nation Elementary School. His work had been featured in many shows and exhibitions including “Many Winters Ago” at Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University.His distinctive illustrations have also appeared in many books. Mr. Printup will be working on a project using seeds and LCA thanks Harris Seeds for their generous contribution!
Brian Ruth- A well established and respected pioneer in field of chainsaw art with 31 years as a professional performance carver, Brian’s pieces are in collections across the world. He travels extensively to demonstrate and teach, and tours the USA for 4 months of every year, headlining many state fairs. Brian has won many awards for his work, including First Place Worlmiester Germany (2007); First Place, MasterPiece and Peoples Choice, Chetwynd, B.C. Canada (2006); and First Place Overall State Wide Champ Power Carving Competition, Tampa Florida (2005.
William Y. Cooper, is a painter, printmaker, muralist, art teacher, writer and playwright. Williams’s work is featured throughout Western New York, including: Art on Wheels: Artists Recycle Reuse and Reinvent 03 Burchfield-Penney Art Center; Tri-Main/Artspace Mural; BFNC Centennial Mural, Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers, Buffalo, NY; and Portrait of Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King Multi-Cultural Institute, Buffalo, NY.
Net proceeds from Olde Sanborn Days benefit the scholarship and contribution fund of the Rotary Club.
